Biography
Mount Mourne plantation, named for the mountains in Ireland,[1] was built by Major Rufus Reid. The plantation is located in Iredell Co, NC.
Property
On 10 Mar 1828 Rufus Reid purchased the property for the plantation. It began with 50 acres for which he paid $250. By the time Rufus Reid died he had a total of about 3625 acres of land, and his home Mount Mourne.[2]
Rufus Reid purchased many tracts of property in his lifetime. At his death these properties were divided amongst his heirs.[3]
After the death of Rufus Reid his wife, Isabella Reid lived at Mount Mourne until her death.[1]
